Rowing Around Vancouver Island

Home ExpeditionsRowing Around Vancouver Island

Colin pulling his rowboat onto a beach during his row around Vancouver Island.

Colin Angus set a new record circumnavigating Vancouver Island in June 2011, completing the 1100 km journey in 15 days, 11 hours, and 47 minutes and breaking the previous record, which was held by kayaker Joe O’Blenis, by over a day.   Colin did the journey in an Expedition Rowboat designed and built by Angus Rowboats, a company he co-founded with his wife.  Several attempts where made to break Colin’s record and in 2014 kayaker Russell Henry completed the circumnavigation in 12 days, 23 hours, and 45 minutes.

It’s a difficult journey that entailed rowing for more than 70 km/day through through some of the most challenging ocean conditions in Canada. A big thanks goes to the many supporters of the expedition including Sundog Eyewear, Iridium Satellite systems, and Helly Hansen.
