Victoria Maritime Museum Fundraiser

March 8, 2016 Posted by Julie Events

Victoria’s Maritime Museum is a treasure trove of artifacts from Canada’s West Coast maritime history. Dating back to 1775, its collection includes ships, ship plans, logbooks, art works and more.  The museum has however weathered its own storm over the last year.  After being evicted from their long-time home due to the need for seismic upgrades and restoration, they have still to find a permanent home.  This is despite the government’s decade old agreement to ensure the museum’s artifacts always have a   venue to be displayed.

In order to help with this state of transition, the Maritime Museum, a non-profit organization, is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday March 10, 2016.  This event will take place at the Maritime Museum of BC at 634 Humboldt St., and at the Vic Theatre. The night will start with drinks and appetizers at 6:00pm, with the show starting at 7:00pm.

The show will include presentations and a panel discussion with 3 adventurers.  Colin Angus will be there along with John Guzzwell, who in 1955 launched his 19’ Trekka and departed Victoria in the smallest boat to sail around the world, and Tony Gooch, who is 2003 completed a non-stop solo circumnavigation.  There will also be a silent auction for some pretty cool “Armchair Adventures”.

Go to the Maritime Museum website to get your tickets and read about the event in today’s Times Colonist.
