Race to Alaska or R2AK is a 1,200 km race from Port Townsend, Washington to Ketchikan, Alaska. The rules are pretty simple: No motor, no support, all the way to Alaska.
Colin participated in the 2016 race and came in first for boats under 20 feet. He used a sailing rowboat he designed and built, which is now available through Angus Rowboats. Along the way he learned a few things about racing the rugged west coast, constructing a fast boat, and close encounters with killer whales.
