Day 10 – injured

June 29, 2011 Posted by Julie Vancouver Island Circumnavigation 10 Comments

Well, I’m sorry to say that it wasn’t the satellite updater that stopped working.  Colin was pulled up on a beach near Schooner Bay but I didn’t see him when I went looking.

I just found out when I returned home and he called.  “I was hurting so much, I couldn’t go on,” he said.  His tendonitis is worse than ever, and I’m sure the poor night’s sleep didn’t help.  He’s going to see if he can continue tomorrow. Hopefully a day’s rest will help.

Ugh, what a groaner. I’m so sorry! He must be very very disappointed. Well, if there is any one that can pull this off, it is him. Bu this may be above and beyond what he can do with this type of injury. Dang the spot!!

What Colin has done so far is incredible. This includes being wise enough to pull up on the beach when his body has reached its limit for now. I’m so glad you found him safe. See how things are in the morning..

Sorry to hear the tendonitis has brought Colin down. I am still looking forward to seeing him swing by Victoria.

It takes tremendous character to do what Colin has done, If tomorrow doesn’t work I wouldn’t feel too bad, I have some ideas on what may work for next time if it doesn’t work out, I am glad you are safe!

Think very carefully, Colin – it’s not worth jeapordising your long-term health over. If continuing is going to knacker your future rowing career, then stop: the island will still be there next time.

And in the intervening period, you could invent a self-feathering oar……

    Above all, stay safe x

Hey Colin, My hands hurt just thinking about you out there! Have been tracking your progress and am mightily impressed by your mind-over-matter stoicism. Rest up and see what comes…
